swine flu pregnant death

Should i get the swine flu injection? or could in have side effects for my baby ?

im 15 weeks pregnant and my midwife offered me the swine flu injection because of the death rates. lots of people are getting them, but im unsure because could there me side effects this hasnt been around long so how would the doctors know it wont harm my baby. should i go for it or not

I will explain it to you like my obgyn explained it to me. When people get the seasonal flu, it affects their upper lungs, they can cough and thuff can come up, and the congestion is easier to clear up. With H1N1, it affects the lower lungs, getting into them deeper, and you cant just cough to clear it up, and even at times, ventilators and respirators are not working as well to clear it up. When a woman is pregnant, as she gets further along, her growing uterus pushes up on her lungs, and this creates less room for our lungs to expand when taking in air. Many women complain of shortness of breath during pregnancy and this is the reason. So think of this along with a pregnant woman getting swine flu. That is why it can be so dangerous for pregnant women to get it.
No one knows what effects, if any, there are on the baby, however so far women who are pregnant and have gotten the shot so far their babies are still developing and growing normally, mine included. I got the shot 2 weeks ago yesterday, and my decision was based on what i mentioned above, plus the fact that I have chronic bronchitis. For me to get the regular flu without being pregnant is hard enough on my lungs, so I dont even want to know the efects of the swine flu on me when I am pregnant.
The woman above, who is TTC, mentioned that there could be side effects, and babies could end up handicapped or whatnot. I hope and pray that that is not the case, but you know what? That would not make me love my child any less than if it was perfectly healthy. I am a mother, and getting pregnant yeilds no guarantees, vaccine or no vaccine, and there is always a chance of something going wrong, before during or after birth. But I know with the vaccine, I will be here to care for and love my child, where as if I die of swine flu, I will not be here for my baby, and the baby may die too.
whatever decision you make, make sure it is right for you and not because someone told you this or that. Assess your situation with your doctor and family, assess your risks, and go from there. My obgyn is not big on medications during pregnancy, and doesnt even like to give epidurals because of the very small chance of paralysis, but even he strongly recommends the vaccine to his patients. Good luck with your decision and remember, no matter what you decide, you have your childs best interest in mind, and that is what is most important

EDIT: I have checked the links that “Is It Over Yet” has listed, and as for the comment about 2000 adverse effects and 6 deaths it states :
Of the 1922 reports of adverse events, 84 (4% of all reports) described serious adverse events, including 6 reports of death. This number of serious reports is similar to the number of serious reports after a comparable number of seasonal flu vaccine is distributed

SIMILAR TO COMPARABLE NUMBER OF SEASONAL FLU VACCINE.

So this means that it is not reporting any more or less instances of reactions than the normal seasonal flu vaccine.
People focus on a scentence or 2 of a whole document and sun with it. Read the facts and see them for what they are.
