swine flu complications pneumonia
is my baby less of a risk of getting complications from swine flu because ..?

My baby has had the immumococcal conjugate vaccine(7-valent) ‘PCV’ does this mean he’s less a risk from swine?
flu complications, such as pneumonia?? so less likely to need critical care, does this mean that all children who had this vaccine are protected, and if so, why can’t we all have this tested vaccine instead of an untested swine flu vaccine. Obviously it won’t protect people from getting the flu, but will stop the possible strain to the NHS?

The risk of getting secondary bacterial pneumonia is reduced, and this is still a significant complication of the flu, but it appears H1N1 is also capable of causing primary viral pneumonia.

Unlike seasonal flu, the H1N1 strain has a weak affinity for alpha 2-6 receptors in the lung. This is what is causing the horrible viral pneumonia and acute respiratory distress in those who get the serious H1N1 complications, (both adults and children). Unfortunately the PCV vaccine does not protect against this, only the H1N1 vaccine will (hopefully).

The key thing to remember with babies is to watch them closely and act quickly if they show any signs of respiratory problems. Babies can’t compensate as easily as adults.
